Expert Metal Spinners in Aldridge, Birmingham, The Midlands and Across the UK
Winward Engineering Ltd. boasts over 70 years of experience in metal spinning in the UK and is one of a handful of market-leading metal spinning companies. With our ISO 9001:2008 certification, we can ensure the quality and traceability of our products. We offer metal spinning services in our plant in Aldridge which is a few minutes away from Birmingham. We also provide the service in the West Midlands and across the UK.
The mechanical working of the metal during the spinning process refines and strengthens, as well as eliminates hidden and surface inconsistencies, improving the metal’s overall integrity. Metal spinning is limited to round shapes so whenever possible, design parts that increase in diameter as the depth increases.
We are metal spinners of all types of metals including:
- Mild Steel
- Stainless Steel
- Copper
- Aluminium
- Brass
- Alloy 600/601
- Tantalum
- Beryllium
We can also spin specialist metals, such as titanium, zirconium and inconel, to name but a few.
Winward are proud to service a large variety of industry sectors, including aerospace, automotive, food processing and scientific. These industries use the metal in their various manufacturing processes to make their desired product. For example, automotive and aerospace companies use high-quality metal, which has undergone metal spinning, to construct specific car or aircraft parts. Our metal spinning experts ensure that our metal spinning services adequately meet the various standards of different industries.
We are metal spinners of a large variety of sizes up to 2.25m in diameter and we undertake both large and small batch runs.
Our metal spinner plant is conveniently located in Aldridge, just minutes away from Birmingham. Our plant is accessible and easily services any part of the UK.
Metal Spinning for Over 70 Years
Winward use a range of metal spinning methods, including hand metal spinning, hydraulic metal spinning, shear forming and flow forming. We are able to keep tooling costs to a minimum as we have a wide range of existing tooling. In some cases, we can modify, clean or rectify the existing tooling to suit our clients’ new tooling requirements.
Should your specific component require new tooling, Winward can produce this for you in-house, giving you the best ROI.
We are highly proficient and experienced in producing prototype components and we regularly produce small batch component runs for all sectors of industry, especially aerospace and automotive, where components need to be proved before going into full production. With our vast knowledge and expertise, we can help you to manufacture your completed part.
Design Considerations for Metal Spinning
Winward Engineering Ltd will work with you to ensure that your design is fully optimised for the metal spinning process. We suggest that most powder coating, painting and plating should be performed after spinning as the metal spinning process works the material more than some processes.
Feel free to contact our friendly, helpful team if you have any questions during the design phase.
How Metal Spinning Works
Metal Spinning is the process of rotating metal at high speed to be cut and formed to a specific shape. The process starts with a flat sheet of metal that is cut into a disk. After that, the metal is placed in the metal spinning machine, and the inner rotating mandrel applies pressure to form a cylinder, rounded shape or any part according to the specifications of the final product.
The roller wheels that cut and form edges are used to move the metal to match the inner tool. Once the metal product is fully formed, the machine stops spinning, and the product is pushed out of the core.
